New ABN? You can still get funded.
How new ABNs get asset finance: what lenders look for (contracts, deposit, credit, the asset), what the file needs, and how we get brand-new businesses funded. Plain English, no dead ends.
Every operator was new once. The myth is that a fresh ABN means waiting two years before anyone will look at you — but new ABNs get funded every week, for trucks, utes and equipment, through lenders who understand what 'new' actually looks like.
The difference between a declined new-ABN file and a funded one is rarely the ABN. It's how the file is built. Here's what we put in it.
What a new ABN really means to a lender
A new ABN isn't the problem — the missing trading history is. Lenders can't see two years of returns, so they look harder at everything else: what work is lined up, who's paying you, what you've done in the industry before going out on your own, and whether the purchase makes obvious sense for the work.
A driver with 10 years in the industry, a signed haulage contract and a new ABN is a strong file dressed in weak paperwork. Our job is showing the strength.
What goes in the file
A funded new-ABN deal usually has most of these:
- Evidence of work — contracts, work orders, letters of intent, or an industry history that explains the purchase
- A deposit — 10–20% smooths most new-ABN deals (trade-ins count)
- Clean personal credit on the directors
- An asset that obviously earns — trucks, utes, plant
- Bank statements showing turnover where it exists
What it costs
Realistically: a bit more than an established ABN. The lender prices the extra risk into the rate, and some deals carry slightly higher fees. It's usually the difference of a point or two — noticeable, not punishing — and it's fixable later: once the ABN has 12–24 months behind it, refinancing into sharper pricing is a normal, routine move.
Getting declined for finance you could have had is far more expensive than a point of rate. We'd rather shape the file and get it funded.
How we run these deals
Not every lender has an appetite for new ABNs, and the ones that do don't advertise it. This is where 40+ lenders earns its keep — we know whose credit teams read a contract-heavy new-ABN file as strong, and we take it straight to them.
And if a deal genuinely isn't fundable today, you'll get the reason and the plan — what to do, how long, what changes. No 'come back in six months' and a shrug.
Tell us what the new business is doing and what you need — we'll build the file.
